At the 2025 Ambassador Cruise Line World Indoor Bowls Championships, history was made by Scotland's Jason Banks. Delivering a string of outstanding performances, he secured an extraordinary treble – the Open Singles, Open Pairs, and Mixed Pairs titles – a feat never achieved before in the sport.

In the process, Jason cemented his status as one of the finest players of his generation, and 'the future of bowls', according to 5-time Open Singles Champion, Paul Foster MBE.

Now, Bowls International Magazine is spearheading a campaign to make sure Jason’s achievements get the national recognition they deserve by pushing a nomination for BBC Sports Personality of the Year. This is a massive opportunity not just for Jason, but for the sport of bowls as a whole, to gain the mainstream spotlight it truly deserves.

Why this matters

Bowls may not always get the same media attention as other sports, but Jason’s dominance throughout the World Championships at Potters Resorts Hopton-on-Sea is nothing short of spectacular. Having also added the Scottish Open title to his CV last November, he’s also the first player to hold four WBT titles in a single season.

His talent, dedication, and sportsmanship are everything we love about the sport of bowls, and we at Potters Resorts couldn’t be prouder to have witnessed his incredible achievement on the famous blue rink in our International Arena.
