On every Family Break, you’ll discover plenty of inclusive extras for all ages. Race on the Inflatable Assault Course, take on Last Man Standing, discover a Mini Drone Adventure or hit new heights on the Bungee Trampolines. But in 2025, you’ll be in your element as an extra show hits the stage!
For anyone who grew up thinking science was all about sitting quietly, staring at a blackboard filled with equations, we will show you otherwise on your fun-filled family break in 2025. Because science isn’t just about textbooks and tests; it’s about discovery, excitement, and having fun while learning.
Enter Exciting Science, appearing on every school holiday break at Hopton-on-Sea in 2025. They’ll blow your mind with wacky tests, loud bangs, audience participation, and lots of mess. This explosive extravaganza is here to show you just how thrilling science can be!
Hosted by a team of enthusiastic and slightly mad scientists, Exciting Science is filled with thrilling experiments that will have you on the edge of your seat. Expect to see things explode, fizz, pop, and whizz, with each demonstration designed to showcase the fascinating side of science.
And the best bit? This show is designed to be interactive and fun for all ages. Whether you’re helping your hosts pull off incredible tricks on stage, or watching with anticipation from your seat, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
And what’s a science show without lots of mess?! Laugh out loud as demonstrations provide a frenzy of foam, goo, and slime! Yes, science isn’t just informative; it’s downright hilarious.
The team behind Exciting Science
Here to tell us why science is anything but boring is Kelly Sims, one of the creators behind the show. So let’s find out more.
"It’s 45 minutes of stage fun, chaos, bangs, mess and memorable moments!"
- Kelly Sims, Exciting Science“The idea for Exciting Science started when our 5-year-old son said he wanted a science party for his birthday. We looked around for various themed parties but they were few and far between. We run a busy events company, so we created our own party. We built film canister rockets, vacuum cleaner missile launchers and smoke ring dustbins!
“The kids loved it so much, we believed there was definitely an opportunity to develop the idea even further and create a stage show. Which is great because, in a theatre, there’s more space to create even more mess. And it’s way easier to clean than our lounge was at the end of that birthday party!
“The show has grown and grown into 45 minutes of stage fun, chaos, bangs, mess and memorable moments. We have a super cast of scientists to look out for, such as Dangerous Dean, Vivacious Vicky, Reactive Rhys, Mad Mike, Krazy Kelly (that’s me!) and more.”
Preparing for the chaos
“Each performance takes a huge amount of planning and preparation. I work with Mad Mike on the script, visuals and sound, at least 3 months before any show. We normally get together for 2 weeks before the performance starts with the cast, to rehearse the version of the show we’re doing, and any new experiments we’ve created.
“Shortly before, I’ll be making up all the chemicals, consumables and costumes. Then all of that is loaded into the van, along with the set. It normally takes 2-3 hours to set, and at least the same to pack down after because the clean-up operation is huge!”
And of course, science is all about testing, experimenting, trial and error, etc. So surely this Exciting Science show is no different…
“We’re always changing the show so it stays new and fresh. We did try the Coke and Mentos experiment once. Dangerous Dean was responsible for pulling the pin and he had to get out of the way quickly before the bottle exploded. Instead, he slipped and fell into the paddling pool and got covered in foam.
“I suggested we keep it as part of the show but Dangerous Dean wasn’t so keen. That’s all part of the fun – in science, things go wrong and when they do, it’s usually hilarious!”
We can’t wait to welcome Kelly and her team of mad scientists this year on every Fully Inclusive Family Break. Whether you’re a budding scientist or just love a bit of chaotic fun, we can tell you right now, Exciting Science is a must-see.
